Dr. Ed Cohen
Medical Director/ Veterinarian
Dr. Ed Cohen has been a practicing veterinarian for the last 33 years. He attended the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. When it comes to veterinary medicine, he prides himself on meticulous attention to detail, especially in regards to providing optimal, state of the art management of pain and distress.
In his free time, Dr. Cohen can be found cooking, hiking, exercising, reading, following college and professional basketball, or spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Sarah Derksen
Veterinarian
Dr. Sarah Derksen has been a practicing veterinarian for the last 16 years. She went to school at Colorado State University. When it comes to her work with animals, she takes pride in fostering the human-animal bond, managing pain, and decreasing an animal’s fear/anxiety.
In her free time, she can be found spending time with her daughter and nephews, watching movies, swimming, hiking, and volunteering at school.
Dr. Theresa Horlsey
Dr. Theresa Horlsey earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine St. George’s Veterinary School. She is passionate about medicine involving acupuncture and supplements and is excited to see exotic patients and give them quality care. Dr. Horsley takes pride in taking a whole-body approach to diagnostics and treatment, working with the owner and pet as a team, and teaching both students and clients. Outside of her veterinary work, Dr. Horsley enjoys playing video games, board games, and putting on murder mystery dinners. A fun fact about Dr. Horsely: she grew up in Europe until the age of 12 and can count to 10 in 6 different languages. Her beloved pets include three cats, a blue-tongued skink, and 4 fish tanks.

Hello! I joined the staff of Stetson Hills Animal Hospital in September 2018. I am currently attending Mesa Community College for my associate’s degree in applied science and will graduate in May 2022 to become certified as a veterinary technician. My interest in veterinary medicine started when my dog Kiera developed chronic pancreatitis, and I wanted to learn more about the disease and other medical conditions.
One of my favorite things about working in an animal hospital is getting to meet new people, establishing relationships with our clients and patients, providing animal care, and helping to educate our clients about annual prevention.
I have two dogs at home, Jack and Kiera, who are Shih Tzu/Poodle mixes. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and spending time with my family.
Mindy Langston
Lead Veterinary Technician
Mindy has been working as a veterinary technician for the last 16 years. She considers herself a very compassionate person, and patient care is her number one priority. Her own animals are her family, so when she’s caring for pets, she feels as though she has someone else’s child in her care. She also enjoys educating clients and taking time with each and every family, making sure no question goes unanswered.
In her spare time, she can be found spending time with her husband and 2 kids. She enjoys rollerblading, working on puzzles, and making paper mache art.

Hannah has been working with animals on and off for the last 12 years. She is currently enrolled at Pheonix Community College. She prides herself on her patient care, treating each pet as though they were her own.
In her free time, she likes to go hiking as well as work on her insect preservation and bug pinning.
LeeAnne Thomas
Veterinary Assistant
LeeAnne has been a veterinary assistant since she was 16 years old! She takes pride in helping animals and their families. Every case is different, and this helps her grow as a person and helps her provide even better care for the next patients to come.
In her spare time, she reads and collects books. She also likes to play with all her animals; 22 rats, 2 snakes, 2 hampsters, a dog, 4 cats, and 4 tarantulas. Her amazing son also fills her life with adventures. They like to cook, bake, and do crafts together.
Johanna Tarango
Veterinary Assistant
Johanna has been practicing veterinary medicine for 3 years now. She attended Prima Medical Institute. Johanna takes her work very seriously when it comes to patient care. She treats every animal as if they were her own. She believes every animal deserves top-tier care, even “our little spicy friends :).”
In her free time, she watches anime or relaxes with her dogs and family. She also enjoys getting some sun while playing sand volleyball or tennis.

Dawnell has been working in veterinary medicine since 1996, but she joined the Stetson Hills team in 2016. Ever since she was a little girl, Dawnell has been taking care of sick and injured animals. She’s always helped her beloved pets one way or another. She also enjoys learning about how animals think and communicate. Her other life passion includes working with people.
In her free time, she can be found spending time with her 2 children as well as her fur children. She and her family love to travel, go camping, hiking, and relaxing at home.

Sam has been working in veterinary medicine for the last 6 years. She takes pride in her personable communication with clients. She enjoys learning more when it comes to veterinary medicine and being able to help clients understand things based on her experience in vet med.
In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing at home with a good movie. She also enjoys cooking, hiking, trying out new restaurants, and hanging out with friends.
