Here at Stetson Hills Animal Hospital, we strongly advocate that unless you’re a reputable breeder, you should have your pet spayed or neutered before they reach adulthood. However, this recommendation may be changing somewhat, at least for certain breeds. Recent research on Golden Retrievers and possibly some other breeds has led to the discovery of an association between spaying and neutering before a certain age and an increased risk of certain medical conditions. We are happy to schedule consultations with owners of puppies or older dogs to discuss this increasingly complex decision. The recommendation to spay female cats before 6 months and neuter male cats by 8-10 months is very reasonable.

When you arrive with your pet, we will address any remaining questions or concerns you might have. Then our veterinary technicians will prepare them for their surgery in our sterilized surgical suite. Our experienced veterinarians and technicians utilize the most advanced equipment for all surgical procedures and provide attentive after-care to help your pet through their recovery.
